Questions and Answers

Can you verify the collection name and finish you used in this kitchen design?
I used the Atlas Homewares Oskar Collection in the Warm Brass finish.
Tell us about why you chose Atlas Homewares for this design.
I love the Warm Brass finish and how it coordinates nicely with the faucets we selected. The pull style is a nice cross between modern and traditional with the square and round elements that tied into the other shapes we selected for the room.
Describe the project and how you fulfilled your plans for the space.
We transformed a cramped master bath into a more spacious and accessible space with some unique tile and a functional shower for aging in place.
Did you run into any challenges with this specific project?
We aimed to enhance ease of use and accessibility, so we changed to a sliding shower door instead of a hinged one to create the illusion of more space and make it more accessible to enter the shower.
Tell us about yourself and your firm, your design style and/or passion/inspiration?
My design style is really whatever the client’s design style is. I’m passionate about pulling out the client’s desires and tastes and not forcing my own style onto them. At the end of the day, they are the ones paying for the project and the ones who will live in the home, not me. If they aren’t happy, I’m not happy.
Where do you go to get new ideas and inspiration?
This feels cliché these days, but traveling. Visiting other countries and cultures is what fuels my inspiration the most. I’m also a voracious reader and learner—trade shows and magazines on what others in the industry are doing are a great source of new ideas. .
Did you visit a showroom for the hardware? If so, where did you visit?
Our showroom has a display of Atlas Homewares hardware.
What hardware trends are you seeing today?
I’ve had a few recent projects use a darker, gunmetal-type finish on hardware. However, a warm brass finish is still popular.
What new trends are you observing in kitchens and bathrooms?
It’s less about resale and more about what the client wants, likes and needs for the foreseeable future. Homeowners are okay with a future owner having to remodel down the road if it means they are getting what they really want today.
Do you have any tips about how to choose the best hardware for your space, lifestyle, and/or style preferences?
I’m a big advocate for feeling the hardware and physically touching it. How does it feel in your hand? Can you envision pulling on it many times every day and is that comfortable for you?
What’s the best interior design lesson you have learned?
Listen to what the clients aren’t saying. Often this is where the biggest ah-ha’s come from.
