Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your background as a designer.
My name is Cindy Kelly; I am the owner and principal designer at Cindy Kelly Kitchen Design. I have an interior architecture background and specialize in kitchen and bathroom design. I have been in this field for over 25 years.
What inspires your design work?
I am inspired by nature. I love the colors and combinations that Mother Nature provides. My showroom is located on the coast, so there are plenty of beautiful colors and textures to get inspiration from.
Can you share a recent project where you featured Atlas Homewares hardware?
I recently remodeled a kitchen using the Reeves Collection in Matte Black. The solid black hardware pops against the white cabinetry. It was such a nice addition.
What led you to choose Atlas Homewares for your projects?
I like how Atlas has different shapes and styles that are a bit different from the normal grouping of hardware around. It’s a subtle way to personalize the design.
What advice do you give to clients—or fellow designers—when selecting decorative hardware?
Cabinet hardware should complement a design - not be a distraction. Just like when you pair jewelry with your favorite outfit, hardware should pair with the overall design concept.
Do you have a go-to collection or finish from Atlas Homewares? If so, why?
My go-to is the Lennox Collection. It’s a transitional style that goes with so many designs. The detail at the stem adds a subtle design element.
Have you ever mixed and matched hardware styles or finishes in a project? If so, tell us about that process.
I often mix finishes in my design and encourage clients to do the same. We look at the plumbing and lighting fixtures and select a finish that complements them both. With Atlas, their collections come in a variety of finishes, so it is easy to change things up when needed.
What kitchen and bath trends are you currently loving? How does decorative hardware play a role in that?
I love that spaces are warming up. Strong neutral colors like soft beige, taupe, and mocha are coming into play. Atlas has quite a few finishes that pair nicely with muted colors.
